Snowy nights and warm lighting make up the best book reading atmosphere. Sweet romances and easy reads are what I tend to lean toward around this time of the year. One such book is Paris for One and Other Stories by Jojo Moyes. Check it out on Goodreads here:
I was able to finish it very quickly, in about two days. If you’re like me and you enjoy a light read during Christmastime, I would definitely recommend this book.
The story that makes up the bulk of this book is the first story and the title story, Paris for One. It’s just the sort of cheesy story that you crave when you want to read something sappy, but still enjoyable and that will put a smile on your face. It’s about a 26 year old women named Nell who loves structure and planning, but decides to plan a trip to Paris with her boyfriend on a whim. When he can’t make it, she’s forced to navigate Paris alone, stepping way outside of her comfort zone.
As you would expect, she may end up running into a cute Parisian guy on her “vacation”. With an unreliable boyfriend back home, and a cute Parisian guy in her sights, things may get a little complicated.
There are a few short stories following the main one. These are shorter than the main story, but just as sweet and enjoyable. Ranging from plots about buying a beautiful new winter coat when you know you can’t really afford one to meeting the Ex that you were cheating on your husband with.
This book is quite enjoyable for what it is, a few romantic holiday stories about average everyday people. There is enough variety in the plot of each story that there is something for everyone to find relatable or enjoy.
There is nothing amazingly fresh or new about this novel, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t good. If you are looking for something fun and sweet I would recommend giving it a try.
